Discussion on the preparation and technology of high entropy alloy powder materials

With the development of economy and the progress of science and technology, people have higher and higher requirements for the comprehensive properties of metal materials. In recent years, people have found that new materials can also be obtained by modulating the "order" or "entropy" of materials.

The high entropy alloy is a typical "concentrated solid solution", which is different from the traditional alloy "dilute solid solution" and has five characteristics: [1] good high temperature stability; 【2】 Low temperature and high toughness; 【3】 Anti-irradiation swelling rate; 【4】 Slow diffusion effect; 【5】 The grain boundary energy and stacking fault energy are low.

Up to now, we have found high-entropy alloys with face-centered cubic (FCC), body-centered cubic (BCC) and closely-packed hexagonal (HCP) structures. Therefore, ternary and quaternary alloys can also form simple disordered solid solution structures. Compared with traditional alloys, the mixing entropy of ternary or quaternary alloys with equal atomic ratio has been significantly higher than the melting entropy of traditional alloys, with high mixing entropy. The precipitates in some high entropy alloys can enhance the strength and creep resistance of the alloys.

High-entropy alloys have some excellent properties that traditional alloys cannot match, such as high strength, high hardness, high wear and corrosion resistance, high thermal resistance, high resistivity, high temperature oxidation resistance, high temperature softening resistance, etc. Therefore, they will have very good application prospects in nuclear materials, coating materials, low-temperature structural materials, thermoelectric materials, superconducting materials, aerospace materials.
